What instruments can take part in “The Band Experience”?

The workshops are designed to accommodate full bands, so is suitable for vocalists, guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players and horn players, such as trumpet, cornet, saxophone and trombone. If you play a different instrument and are interested in being a part of “The Band Experience”, please get in touch and we will see what we can do to accommodate you!

What standard do I have to be for the course?

You need to have a basic level of competence on your chosen instrument, for instance, you should be able to play a verse and chorus of a simple song fluently. Workshops will be tailored and personalised to meet the needs of the musicians taking the course, so can cater for anyone from grade 2 standard to grade 8 (you do NOT need to have passed graded music exams to participate).

How much is the course?

We are offering an introductory rate for musicians to the course this year at £150 per person for the week, that’s only £30 per day! This includes hire of rehearsal rooms and equipment, the individualised support and coaching from qualified tutors, all music, the concert at the end of the week, including tickets for family and friends, and the opportunity to take away a live recording of the finished songs with your band*.

Do I need my own instrument?

A PA and backline is provided both at the rehearsal rooms and live music venue.

Singers and keyboard players- just bring yourselves.

Guitarists and bassists- you will need your guitar, but amps and cables are provided. (Maybe have a spare set of strings handy, just incase!)

Drummers- a drum kit is provided, you will need to bring your own drumsticks. You can choose to bring your own breakables, or breakables can be hired from the rehearsal studios for a small fee.

Brass and woodwind players- you will need to bring instruments.

When is the next course?

The next course is running during the summer holidays and will take place at Shure 5 Studios from Monday 7th August to Friday 11th August, 10am-3pm every day, concluding with an evening performance on Friday, starting at 7pm. Please note, in order to be accepted onto the course, you will need to get a parent or guardian to complete the registration form in full (If you have any questions about the course, or would like to know any other details, please get in touch)

Do I need to bring lunch?

Yes, you will need to bring a packed lunch, as there are no café facilities. There is a bar to buy soft drinks and snacks such as crisps and chocolate if you wish.

How do I apply for the course?

All you need to do is fill out the registration form online; you will then be contacted with further details. Unfortunately places are very limited and we cannot guarantee that every person that registers will get a place on the course. However, we will endeavor to make sure that all people that register will receive feedback and information about courses in the future, and will be invited to register for our next available course if there is not a place available this time around.

What happens next?

You will receive information via email nearer the course start date if you are offered a place on the course. During the first day, you will get the opportunity to meet all the other participants on the course, and have some time to get to know each other as musicians, during some fun ice-breaker tasks. Then, you will be required to play a verse and chorus of a song of your choice in front of one of our course tutors; this is to ensure we match musicians to those of a similar ability and musical taste, to give the best experience for everyone involved and in order to give the best chance for musicians to carry on as a band after the course has finished. After that, you will be put into your bands and will start your journey as gigging musicians!
